Gaeta and Surroundings: A Region to Discover

Staying at Mare Verde Blu means more than just enjoying the splendid Serapo beach; it also means having access to a region rich in history, medieval villages, and nature reserves. Here are the best excursions starting from our accommodations on Corso Italia:

🏰 Enchanting Villages and History

Sperlonga (15 min): One of the "Most Beautiful Villages in Italy." Lose yourself among its whitewashed houses overlooking the sea and visit the Villa and Grotto of Emperor Tiberius, with the adjoining National Archaeological Museum.

Formia (10 min): The neighboring city holds hidden treasures such as the Roman Cisternone (an underground water cathedral), the Tomb of Cicero, and the ancient fishing village of Mola with its tower.

Itri (15 min): Visit the evocative medieval castle overlooking the valley and the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Civita, a pilgrimage site and exceptional panoramic viewpoint.

🌳 Nature and Archaeological Sites

Minturnae Archaeological District (20 min): Admire the majestic, still-functioning Roman Theater, located along the ancient Appian Way, and the evocative Bourbon Bridge over the Garigliano River.

Gianola Park and Monte di Scauri: A natural oasis perfect for light hiking, where you can admire the remains of Roman villas overlooking the cliffs.

Montecassino Abbey (45 min): One of the most famous monasteries in the world, a symbol of spirituality and reconstruction, easily reached via the A1 motorway (Cassino exit).

⛵ Sea and Island Excursions

Ponziane Islands: Ferries and hydrofoils depart daily from the ports of Formia or Gaeta for Ponza and Ventotene. A day trip among turquoise coves and sea caves is an unmissable experience.

Turco Cave by sea: Rent a dinghy or join an organized tour to admire the cliffs of Monte Orlando from below: the perspective from the sea will leave you breathless.

🌸 Hidden Gems (For day trips)

Garden of Ninfa and Sermoneta (1 hour): Called "the most beautiful garden in the world," Ninfa is a botanical paradise built on the ruins of a medieval city. Just minutes away is the perfectly preserved Caetani Castle of Sermoneta.

Terracina (25 min): Climb to the Temple of Jupiter Anxur to enjoy one of the most expansive views of the entire Lazio coastline, which on clear days extends all the way to Circeo and the islands.

Assunta's tip: "Many of our guests love having breakfast on Corso Italia and then setting off to discover a different village each day. Ask us for advice: we'll be happy to suggest the perfect itinerary based on the weather and your interests!"
